planet africa - an archaeological journey
If you want to explore the roots of humanity, you will inevitably come across the continent of Africa, at least in your mind. This is where all our history began; cultural techniques and strategies for finding food were developed from here and spread all over the world. Africa has always fascinated us with its diversity, but also with its contradictions, which have constantly demanded new survival strategies and continue to do so today. Archaeological finds, images and written testimonies provide insights into the environment, technology, crafts and art and provide evidence of exchange across great distances. In addition to city-like structures, a variety of mobile life forms existed, as excavations have shown. ‘Planet Africa. An archaeological journey through time’ is a unique, continent-spanning exhibition project that focuses on African archaeology.
An exhibition of the German Archaeological Institute and the Berlin Museum of Prehistory and Early History. Starting at the James-Simon-Galerie on Berlin's Museum Island in 2024, the exhibition planet africa will tour throughout Germany. It can also be seen at various African locations, including Accra (Ghana), Lobamba (Eswatini), Maputo (Mozambique), Nairobi (Kenya) and Rabat (Morocco). The exhibition was funded by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
