The Archaeological State Collection operates as an archaeological state museum. It presents the prehistory and early history of Bavaria in the main building in Munich, in the affiliated branch museums and at archaeological state exhibitions. It also acts as a central archive for all archaeological finds in state ownership in Bavaria. With the conservation of archaeological finds, the Restoration Department makes a fundamental contribution to the preservation and research of the material cultural heritage. The scientific cataloguing of the relics of the past provides the basis for knowledge communication and mediation. The tasks, projects and fields of activity that the team at the State Archaeological Collection is responsible for with great dedication are correspondingly wide-ranging.
